Ride Report – Craters of the Moon National Monument

The Craters of the Moon in south central Idaho is a volcanic landscape marked with black rock, high desert sage, and otherworldly views. The monument is situated in a manner that allows viewing of the major sights via a 8 mile loop road, 6 miles of which is one way traffic. The loop road was recently repaved allowing for a silky smooth tandem ride.

Don’t let the short distance fool you this is a challenging ride. Departing from the visitor center at the entrance gate you roll along a slightly undulating surface towards the one way split.

Shortly after the one way split you will ascend the only significant climb of the day as you crest over the peak past Inferno Cone.
